Our mission at Veteran’s Passport to Hope is to raise awareness, raise money, and raise the level of cooperation among the many wonderful area organizations that provide needed services to deserving veterans. We work to accomplish that mission, in part, by financially supporting organizations that support veterans in our area, through our grant program.
This year, we have changed our schedule of events somewhat. Our annual Gala was moved to February (and was a fabulous success!) and our annual grants program has now been moved to the fall. We will open grant applications in August and announce grant recipients at a planned celebration on Veteran’s Day in November.
Our grant recipients have included organizations that are focused on providing free services to help veterans adjust to their return home, re-adjust to civilian life, and cope with PTSD-related challenges. Many of these organizations incorporate animals to help veterans.
One past VP2H grant recipient, Eagle’s Nest Ranch in Elizabeth, Colorado, serves active duty and veteran service members as well as their family members through their Healing Horses for the Armed Forces program. As Eagle’s Nest describes their program, horses become the “teacher on how to survive and adapt to new surroundings in a new herd (civilian life). Meet Eagle’s Nest Ranch founder Suzy MacKenzie in this short video!
Another past VP2H grant recipient that incorporates the therapy of working with horses is Hearts & Horses in Loveland, Colorado. Their Hearts and Horses for Heroes program helps “veterans heal and grow by restoring the wisdom of their mind, body and spirit through their interactions with horses, each other, and the natural world.” Meet Hearts & Horses Program Director Michele Kane in this short video!
VP2H is proud to have helped organizations like these throughout the past five years. If your organization is focused on supporting veterans, is a 501 (c)3, and is Colorado-based, we hope you will submit your application to be one of our next grant recipients.
Additional details on the 2018 grant program will be available in August and will be published on our website and on social media!
